5 Best Bond No.9 Colognes In 2023 (Buying Guide & Review)

Hey there! Welcome to my best Bond No.9 Colognes review for 2023.

After hours of researching and testing five of the best Bond No.9 colognes, I then ranked them based on fragrance accords, New York-centric theme, and value for money.

These are by far the best performing Bond No.9 colognes of the group. And each one is housed in some version of Bond No.9’s abstracted star-shaped bottle.

Sometimes paying hundreds of dollars for cologne can be worth it. Inhaling these fragrances can transport you back to a memorable NYC locale, even if you currently live far, far away. I’ll help you choose one of these scents that’ll reconnect you with a New York City memory or create a new one.

Let’s do it!

Best 5 Bond No.9 Colognes

Bond No.9 is a woman-founded, New York-based fragrance house that releases scents in vivid packaging that revolve around the city that never sleeps. Greenwich Village, Governor’s Island, and Liberty Island are a few examples.

Fragrances are marketed towards women and men but most of their scents are neutral – not too feminine or masculine. All of their releases, however, are the fragrance equivalent to New York City rent – expensive. Nevertheless, they’re a fan favorite and are constantly selling out.

Although each fragrance traditionally captures the essence of a geographical location in New York, I’m noticing a few international additions, like the Dubai Collection and major cities, like New Orleans.

Here are my top five choices:

Bleecker Street is an intriguing scent that’s poured into a bright green bottle covered in a hand-painted watercolor design.

Best known for its nightclubs, comedy and music venues, Bleecker Street is a sensual fragrance that brings warmth to your day, as you slip into a night out on the town.

Fragrance accords include violet leaf, cassis, jasmine, cinnamon, oakmoss, patchouli, vanilla, and caramel. It’s a sweet and sultry blend with hints of spicy notes, but it’s also quite fresh. Some people might even describe it as soapy.

Best Bond No.9 Colognes

Bleecker Street’s sillage is moderate, but you can expect this eau de parfum to last at least 10 hours on the skin, although many wearers report it lasting much longer.

Its seasonal wear is limited to spring and early summer. It’ll unlikely project during fall or winter but if temperatures are too high outside, then this scent can easily become unbearable.

Although it’s a unisex fragrance, it leans more masculine than feminine with regards to the notes.

Pros

  • Unique scent combination
  • Versatile use increases value
  • Interesting fragrance profile
  • Long lasting fragrance

Cons

  • Very expensive
  • Doesn’t sit well on everyone’s skin

Honoring NYC’s iconic skyline, New York Nights eau de parfum is poured into an electric blue bottle with the New York City skyline depicted in a vibrant, multi-colored mosaic tile design.

The fragrance is as radiant as the bottle. It opens with three floral notes: jasmine, gardenia, and carnation. Fresh, earthy, sweet, and spicy. The floral notes are so heavy that they bleed into the patchouli, sandalwood, and aquatic heart notes.

Sweetness is amplified as New York Nights dries down to piquant coffee and buttery sweet caramel. This scent has only increased in popularity since it was released.

Another Bond No.9 fragrance with moderate sillage and enduring longevity. You can expect more than 10 hours of wear from this fragrance.

It seems that different notes are more noticeable for men and women. This is definitely a scent you’d have to try for yourself to see how it sits on your skin.

Elegant gold bottle with clear neck patterned with the Bond No.9 logo, this is the signature Bond No.9’s scent that was unveiled in celebration of ten years in their flagship boutique location. While this one is not named specifically for a New York neighborhood, it was named for the street where the Bond No.9 boutique is headquartered in Noho.

Its concentration is even higher. There’s 30 percent fragrance oils in this parfum, meaning it will last even longer, offering you more value for your dollar.

An exquisite blend of oud extract, rose, tonka beans, and musk, this is an earthy, floral, and slightly sweet parfum that would make a nice addition to your fragrance collection.

Oud, also called agarwood, lends a very complex set of fragrance notes. In addition to its earthy richness, oud is also nutty and even a bit pungent. It’s complemented by romantic, powdery rose and musk notes.

The scent of tonka beans can vary widely. Fresh grassiness or warm nutty notes can dominate. Or, you can experience spiciness, woodiness, or sweetness. In terms of New York Signature, it’s the spicy, woody notes that seem to come to the fore.

Pros

  • Pretty versatile seasonal use

Chez Bond is one of the first Bond No.9 fragrances released and they describe it as “the essence of downtown maleness: cool, strong, brash, unabashed.”

Some wearers describe Chez Bond as a more pleasant take on Creed’s Green Irish Tweed. However it’s described, Chez Bond is the epitome of a fresh fragrance.

It opens up with sparkling citrus notes and the scent of fresh cut grass. There’s a prominent herbal tea accord combined with the cucumber-like scent of violet leaves. Earthy, green, and dusty vetiver is complemented with both cedarwood and sandalwood.

Cedarwood is a milder wood note with a hint of balsamic accords, while sandalwood can be spicy, creamy, velvety and fresh smelling. I think the combination of the two helps soften the edges of this fragrance.

Chez Bond lasts long with moderate sillage, even though it’s an airy, citrusy fresh fragrance. Even though it performs well, it isn’t overbearing. On the contrary, it’s a rather addictive fragrance. This is a great one to have on hand in your fragrance collection.

This can make for an ideal daily wear fragrance Although its going smell st

Pros

  • Delightful fresh, clean fragrance
  • Lasting fragrance adds value
  • Alternative to Creed Irish Tweed
  • Perfect daily fragrance in warmer months

Ideal occasion: Daytime settings
Longevity: 8+

You may wonder which NYC neighborhood Scent of Peace represents, but it’s more of an aspiration than a physical location.

Bond No.9 founder Laurice Rahmé was the first perfumer to be awarded the United Nations’ Women for Peace award for philanthropic work promoting peace both domestically and internationally, this was in 2015.

Described as the “sparkling-fresh scent of our civic dreams,” Scent of Peace was released in 2006 and was a major contributing factor for Rahmé to be considered for the Women for Peace award. A portion of every Scent of Peace sale made in 2006 was donated to UNICEF.

The Scent of Peace bottle is periwinkle blue and adorned with an illustration of a dove, representing peace. This illustration is in the form of a ribbon and there are additional ribbons arranged in the background.

Spritely grapefruit and fresh black currant open up this fragrance. Lily-of-the-valley, and hedione comprise the heart of this fragrance transitioning into fresh, sweet and soapy notes. It’s possible for men to have a heightened sense of attraction towards women wearing the pheromone hedione.

Scent of Peace dries down with cedarwood and musk notes. Although this is a subtle fragrance, it’s also distinctive, and you will receive compliments from those around you.

Pros

  • Balanced scent accords
  • A lovely, elegant fragrance
  • Complex sillage
  • Long lasting which adds value

Cons

  • High retail price
  • Limited seasonal wear

What are the Advantages & Disadvantages to Wearing Bond No.9 Colognes?

Bond No.9 has been setting its own precedents from its inception in 2003. It was likely even before then, like when Laurice Rahmé entertained the idea of founding and being the executive officer of Bond No.9.
Laurice Rahmé was the first woman to head a New York perfume house. This was a huge accomplishment in a field that’s still dominated by males.

At the time of its founding, Bond No.9 was also the first and only niche perfume house in New York City. This company has never been purchased by a conglomerate or gone public, either. This makes Bond No.9 even more special as a perfume house because they retain full control over what scents are made and released to the public.

Another fact that makes this company unprecedented is its approach to fragrance development. Some companies are inspired by an era, others might place emphasis on sourcing certain ingredients but Bond No.9 highlights New York City neighborhoods. They artfully and intentionally capture the olfactory essence of the neighborhood and pour it into a bottle.

It’s amazing how spraying on an eau de parfum can cause you to feel as though you’re walking down those very streets.

Bond No.9 is an exciting company to write about, but it’s also important to take a balanced approach to deciding whether or not to invest in a bottle of their fragrances. What might be some advantages and disadvantages to wearing Bond No.9 colognes?

Niche Fragrance Category

I’ve briefly mentioned a couple times that Bond No.9 is a niche fragrance company, but what does that mean?

Niche companies focus less on selling to the masses and more on honing in on a particular corner of their desired market. There are ups and downs to this approach.

Advantages to Wearing a Niche Fragrance

On the positive side, these companies can take more risks when formulating fragrances.

Since they aren’t trying to appeal to everyone, they can allow olfactory notes to be their playground. They know who they’re trying to reach and what tastes that specific group of individuals will have, so they’re able to create scents that will appeal to a limited few.

In this case, they’re not only appealing to New Yorkers, but also to individuals who have visited and want to carry the scent with them as a reminder, a souvenir so to speak.

Another advantage is that fewer people will be wearing the fragrance since it doesn’t have mass appeal. This is beneficial to you because you can stand out instead of smelling like everyone else around you.

The last positive point I’ll mention is performance. When you purchase niche fragrances, especially Bond No.9, you can expect for it to sit on your skin for hours on end. More importantly, you won’t have to spray that much on in order for it to project well and last all day.

This is a form of savings because although you’re paying more for the fragrance, you’re using less, which translates into you not having to replace the bottle as quickly as you might have to replace a designer fragrance.

Disadvantages to Wearing a Niche Fragrance

On the flip side of fewer people wearing this scent is that another reason why fewer people will wear it is because niche fragrances aren’t financially accessible to the masses.

Only a small subset of the population can comfortably afford to pay hundreds of dollars for one bottle of perfume. So, you may enjoy the fragrance accords but find it difficult to obtain a bottle.

One way to possibly address this problem, though, is to purchase a decanted sample of the fragrance. The downfall here is that the entire Bond No.9 fragrance line won’t be available in this format.

The other disadvantage to buying a niche fragrance like Bond No.9 is that you might very well dislike the perfumes for the very reason that others love it.

When perfumers take liberties to combine scent accords that wouldn’t otherwise be paired together, they’re not the only ones taking a risk. You, the wearer, also have to be daring enough to confidently wear a scent that’s uncommon.

For some people, this isn’t a problem at all, but for others, it might feel uncomfortable.

Is It Good or Bad to Wear Bond No.9 Fragrances?

Overall, niche fragrances present a wonderful way to explore new scents, experiment with the way certain scents respond to your body and sit on your skin, and it’s one of the best ways to seek a signature scent.

Signature scents are meant to be reflective of who you are as a person. When you wear designer fragrances, it’s difficult to truly smell one of a kind unless you layer your scents or get creative in some other way.

Niche fragrances like Bond No.9 solve that problem for you because less of it is made and fewer people will be wearing the small batches that are made.

Conclusion

Bleecker Street eau de parfum is quite versatile and works well for men and women. Although it’s a spicy sweet scent, there are subtle floral notes that make for a balanced fragrance presentation.

It also lasts forever on your skin, making it an ideal choice if you need to transition from day to night without having time to reapply a cologne. To me, this one is the clear winner.

For a fresh daily scent that leans more towards masculine accords, Chez Bond is the one you want to choose. It’s clean without being too harsh but it still performs strongly even though it’s a pretty light fragrance.

Whichever Bond No.9 fragrance you choose, understand that it will pose a higher expense but with that higher price comes superb performance.
