Pop singer Zayn has captured the hearts of fans since he was a member of the boy band, One Direction. Even after breaking off into his own solo career, there’s no short of questions about his life, including what cologne he wears.
Multiple sources indicate that Zayn likes to wear Light Blue Pour Homme by Dolce & Gabbana. It’s an inexpensive, light and refreshing fragrance with sensual undertones.

A Brief History of Zayn Malik
British singer Zayn Malik became a household name after he and four other young men competed as individual contestants on the television series, The X Factor. Though he had promising potential, Zayn had been eliminated from the competition.
Malik was eventually asked back by Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger, but not as an individual performer. Instead he was added to a new five-member boy band, One Direction. Other group members included: Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, and Niall Horan. None of them advanced through the individual competition category but as a group, they finished the show in third place.
After being signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco Records in the UK, they became increasingly popular. Later on in 2011, they signed a North American deal with Columbia records.
Over the years, they’ve earned many accolades. Their third album was a worldwide best-seller.
Zayn exited the group in early 2015, bringing the member size down to four. One Direction released their fifth album during the fall of 2015. As of 2016, they have been on an indefinite hiatus. Even so, One Direction records are still selling. As of 2020, One Direction earned the status as one of the best-selling bands of all time by selling over 70 millions records worldwide.
They released four albums with all original band members and one album as a group of four:

- Midnight Memories (2013)
- Four (2014)
- Made in the A.M. (2015)
In addition to music releases, the young men also joined up with Eden Parfums to release four fragrances for females.
One Direction Fragrances
If you’ve followed One Direction since its earlier years, you might remember them releasing fragrances for her through the parent company, Eden Parfums. Eden manufactured, marketed, and distributed the One Direction fragrances.
One such perfume was called, You & I. This was the commercial for it:
Unfortunately, they’re no longer manufacturing the scents. Even the website dedicated to it, OneDirectionFragances(dot)com has been removed. Fragrances were released between 2013 and 2015.
But you can still find bottles of some of the scents online, if interested.
In total, they released four perfumes:
- Our Moment (2013) – a light floral, fruity scent for daywear
- That Moment (2014) – a fruity, citrus scent for daywear
- You & I (2014) – a floral, fruity gourmand for day
- Between Us (2015) – a more mature, amber floral fragrance for day or night
You & I and Moments were both named for songs the band recorded. A lot of their scents had accompanying body lotion, shower gel, and rollerball perfume of the same fragrance. Their last scent, Between Us was released after Zayn left the One Direction band.
Zayn’s Solo Career
It’s been stated that Zayn may have left One Direction because he felt he didn’t have much input in the direction their music was going.
As a solo artist, Zayn released:
- Mind of Mine (2016)
- Icarus Falls (2018)
- Nobody Is Listening (2021)
His personal work leans more towards R&B and urban music, unlike One Direction’s pop rock style.
After the release of his first album, Zayn was awarded New Artist of the Year by the American Music Awards. Billboard named him top new artist in 2017. He earned a number of awards worldwide, but was eventually released from his contract with RCA records in late 2021.
His Zquad is still holding strong, though, at over 50 million followers across all of his social accounts.
Zayn has also made a name for himself in the fashion world. At Versace, Zayn was named creative director for the release of a capsule wardrobe for men and women. Prior to that, he released four pairs of Italian footwear with Guiseppe Zanotti.
Zayn’s Signature Scent: Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue Pour Homme
According to their website, Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue is said to “… capture the fresh, spicy and sensual scents of the Mediterranean.” This leads me to believe that Zayn’s preference for this fragrance might be linked to his Mediterranean roots.
Zayn was born and raised in England, and his mother is of British Irish heritage. His father is an English immigrant from Palestine. And Zayn was in fact raised in the Muslim faith.
Although he no longer identifies this way, this culture was part of his upbringing and may have indirectly influenced his scent preferences.
Light Blue is bottled in a modern frosted glass with a domed cap – reminding me of some of the architecture along the Mediterranean Sea.
As an eau de toilette, Light Blue won’t last as long throughout the day, but it’s an airy scent that might not have the same scent effect if it were an eau de perfum.
The head notes are citrus and aromatic: bergamot, mandarin, grapefruit peel, and juniper.
More aromatic notes can be found at the heart of this fragrance with the addition of rosemary. Sichuan pepper adds some spice and rosewood is peppery, spicy, and woody.
Lastly, the fragrance dries out with a sensual blend of musk wood, incense, and oak moss as bottom notes. Oak moss is at once earthy, smoky, green, and leathery. Musk wood is both earthy and powdery.
This scent combination has been well received as a light summer fragrance to be worn during the day. Light Blue Pour Homme can also be worn in the spring, but it won’t project well in fall or winter.
Light Blue Pour Homme was launched in 2007 and is very reasonably priced considering that it’s made by Dolce & Gabbana.
Zayn has been reported to say that he doesn’t want to be categorized by religious belief practice or ethnicity. I get the impression that he wants to be his own person in spite of his upbringing and connection to the boy band One Direction.
If this is true, it seems right that his signature scent would be one that was released so long ago and costs much less than what he could likely afford. It seems to me that he simply wears what he likes and isn’t concerned with what others believe he should be wearing.
Should You Wear Zayn’s Favorite Fragrance?
As with all fragrances, you never really know how a scent will smell on you until you spray it onto your skin and allow all of the fragrance layers to unfold.
So you can never really choose a scent based on what someone else is wearing. But if you think you’ll like the fragrance notes outlined above, then you should at least give Light Blue Pour Homme a try.
